Historical Martial Arts -- Swordplay, Dagger and Grappling (Watertown)

  • Nov 29, 2012 · 7:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We practice L'Arte D'Armizare (The Art of Bearing Arms), a historical European martial art. Our main sources of interpretation are the books (c[masked]) of Fiore dei Liberi, a fencing master from Friuli (thus the non-standard Italian spellings!).

Our beginning students work on a combination of the longsword curriculum in Sword in Two Hands and the main Schola site, and also work on integrating the developing work on abrazzare (grappling) and daga (dagger/knife) skills. These skills are drawn from direct translation from historical sources, developed through multiple physical interpretations and tested at speed. Though we emphasize historical technique, our training sessions are a blend of warmup, interpretation, drill, and for those who've passed our safety standards, both focused and open sparring.

No previous experience is necessary--we can start you at any regular meeting if you let us know you're coming! Beginning classes generally run from 7:30 to 8:30, though many of us end up staying later.
