The Silk Road Ensemble

With fifteen musicians from India, Japan, Israel, Spain, Iran, Switzerland, the U.S. and China, this concert will showcase a wide range of music from around the world—from traditional Rajasthani and Japanese tunes to composed pieces inspired by Persian fire temples, American jazz idioms and the give and take of cross-cultural community.

The program will feature pieces by shakuhachi player Kojiro Umezaki and violinist Colin Jacobsen, both performing in the concert, as well as “Playlist for an Extreme Occasion,” by Vijay Iyer—a piece the Ensemble developed in workshops at Harvard in January 2012.
