Focus on Finance.

If you’ve ever wondered how to apply some of your data skills to finance then this is the evening for you.

First up; the winners of the recent Boston Data Festival stock prediction hackathon will present the various stock prediction models used to win this Kaggle competition.  They will provide us with insights into what worked and what didn’t in their various predictive models.  Prior to the meetup we will make available the data sets used in the competition and also code from the winning models.

Following this we are privileged to have a very respected practitioner from quant finance join us for the evening.  David Kane is a portfolio manager at Hutchin Hill Capital and has over 15 years experience in finance as both a statistician and portfolio manager.  His talk is titled  "Your Career in Finance. Or, Five Weird Tricks for Getting a Job on Wall Street."

If time permits we may do a quick overview of some of the tools and libraries popular with quant finance practitioners.

As per usual we will follow this up with a networking session.

Hope to see you there.

Sheamus.

Thanks for the awesome presentations. By the way, does anyone know where the pizza came from?

I was hoping to know where the pizza was baked... Maybe I need more data mining from this page to find out the answer.

Hey everyone! I'm William from the Buffalo team that presented about their stock model. We used our analysis for our final project in our Data Science class (cs109.org), and we ended up making a website and 2-minute video to support our analysis.

All of that is accessible at https://sites.google.com/site/predictingstockmovement

    Also check out Process.ipynb at
    https://github.com/wzchen/stock_market_prediction
for our fully documented code and thought process

Thanks everyone for your interest and support!

Unfortunately I have missed it, even though wanted to attend so much. Will there be any repeat of this event?

hack / reduce is in Cambridge, near Kendall Square. The building is at the intersection of Third and Binney. Entrance on Third.

    275 3rd St in Cambridge

275 *West* 3rd is in South Boston and that's where the map is pointing to.

275 3rd street, Cambridge, MA. Google Maps on iPhone for some reason gives directions to 275 W 3rd str in Boston, even if you select Cambridge.
