• 1st HashiCorp User Group Boston 2019

    Slalom Consulting

Our friends at Slalom Consulting graciously offered their new space in Back Bay to host the first Boston HUG of 2019! Beyond general networking, we'll be hearing from HUG member Jonathan Griggs from Buildium about how Jonathan and his team moved from a mostly physical environment to AWS with Terraform and lessons learned along the way. We'll also share a general introduction to the latest and greatest with Vault and how it helps customers centrally manage secrets in a multi-cloud world, spanning on prem, private and public cloud. Looking forward to seeing everyone and ringing in the spring with the local HashiCorp User Community! Agenda: 6:00-6:30--Food, drinks and networking 6:30-7:00--Jonathan Griggs from Buildium--on prem to AWS with Terraform 7:00-7:30--HashiCorp Vault and Centralizing Secrets Management 7:30-8:00 General discussion, Q&A

  • Using Consul Connect to Secure Service-to-Service Communication

Join HashiCorp cofounder and CTO Armon Dadgar as he presents on Consul Connect! Modern application architectures are embracing public clouds, microservices, and container schedulers like Kubernetes and Nomad. These bring complex service-to-service communication patterns, increased scale, dynamic IP addresses, ephemeral infrastructure, and higher failure rates. These changes require a new approach for service discovery, configuration, and segmentation. Service discovery enables services to find and communicate with each other. Service configuration allows us to dynamically configure applications at runtime. Service segmentations lets us secure our microservices architectures by limiting access. In this talk, we cover these challenges and how to solve them with Consul providing as a service mesh. Additionally, Jeff Dillon and Daniel McAvinue of Wayfair will be speaking on Terraform and the use of provisioning cloud infrastructure agnostic to the provider. But what about shops with a hybrid model of on prem datacenters and cloud? We have been working on a solution that hooks Terraform code into prem stacks, including Cisco switches, EMC San, Dell and HP bare metal, and more. This solution will allow us to deploy on prem infrastructure the same you would in AWS or GCP. Schedule: 5:30: Start, small bites, networking 6:00: Armon takes the floor 6:40: Jeff Dillon and Daniel McAvinue 7:00: Q&A **RSVP will close Tuesday at 12pm EST.
