What we're about

We will be transitioning to a Facebook group in 2019. Please follow us at: https://www.facebook.com/bostonfempocbooks/. Thank you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is an intersectional book club for Feminists of Color (FoC), and we will be reading books written by or starring WoC and LGBTQIA People of Color (PoC). Unapologetically, we won't be reading any books written or starring dead old white guys. The goal is to get a taste of every genre, and to find interesting page-turners.

We know that reading a book is a big commitment, and want to give you a chance to get to know the group before putting time aside in your busy lives. We host many fun social events and meet & greets. Please make sure to update your RSVP if your plans change! :)

In terms of the books, we're talking REAL diversity here. Meaning in genre (hidden Sci-fi gems, radical thrillers, escapist but hilariously fun trash-fiction) geographic location (non-Western authors who speak a language other than English) and gender (You said what? The main character is a spaceship (http://www.amazon.com/Ancillary-Justice-Imperial-Radch-Leckie/dp/031624662X/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437704047&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=anscilliary+justice) in a universe without gender? That's right!!).

All are welcome, but this is specifically a safe place for PoC (of any gender identity and orientation), so if you're not a PoC or a Queer PoC, we expect you to be a good ally (http://bit.ly/1AtuM5S).

**If anything said during our meetings ever makes you feel uncomfortable, hella oppressed, or silenced, please contact any of the organizers directly. We make every effort to make this a safe space, and will address any issues to the best of our ability.

In addition to reading awesome books by WoC/QPoC's, we have a POC-only social justice space: The IRFoC Justice League! (https://sites.google.com/view/irfocjusticeleague/) The Justice League is a community in which POC's can engage in activism with other POC's while gaining encouragement, accountability, and support for their various advocacy interests. Justice League events will have event titles starting with "IRoC Justice League". Check out our website (https://sites.google.com/view/irfocjusticeleague/) for additional events, blog posts, and resources!
