The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. Last year, they distributed more than 54 million pounds of food, enough to provide healthy meals to over 500,000 people.
The GBFB is committed to increasing their food distribution to provide at least one meal a day to every person in need in eastern Massachusetts. GBFB works to acquire, store, organize and distribute food through local food pantries, community meal programs, homeless and residential shelters, youth programs, senior centers, and day-care centers embedded in communities throughout the nine counties of eastern Massachusetts.
Volunteers play a critical role in ending hunger by giving their time and talent to support The Greater Boston Food Bank. Last year, about 26,000 volunteers worked a total of 65,000 hours. Volunteers will be working in the warehouse and inspecting, sorting, and packing food and grocery products.
For more information, please visit the GBFB's official website: http://gbfb.org/
Free Parking is available for all volunteers -- don't forget to take a token at the front desk as an 'exit' ticket.
GBFB is accessible by public transportation including the red line as well as the #1, #8, and #47 bus.
For all those interested, we will go out to lunch after volunteering!
