Help Bostonians Learn (and some social fun after...)

Having a good education opens so many doors. Many of us take our education for granted, but there are lots of Bostonians struggling to advance their economic circumstances because they did not have the opportunity to finish their education. The United South End Settlement helps adults get the educational foundation they need to succeed - but they really need you to help the students succeed!

We will spend about two hours teaching Bostonians basic English and Math skills. Helping them prepare for and pass their GEDs. Helping them better their lives. Afterwards, we can regroup over some food and drinks! This meetup will be held monthly on the first Thursday of the month.

About a week before the meetup happens, I will send along the volunteer application and some additional information to those who have signed up. Please be sure to only sign up for this if you can give at least 72 hours notice that you will cancel - we want to make sure we have enough volunteers in attendance to serve the students!

This lives by our philosophy "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." I hope you can join!

It was really good to help others with their math. I'd definitely like to do this regularly.

So sorry to cancel at the last minute, but I need to take care of a family matter.

These things happen, so please take care of your family first! Thank you letting me know!

Is there going to be anything posted if they cancel the afternoon program due to the snow tonight?

    March 21, 2013

    • Nicole (.

The program follows Boston Public School closings, so you can always check the local news. And I will absolutely send out an email if tonight is cancelled. However, I think Boston is only getting about an inch, if that, so I don't anticipate having to cancel.

This is awesome! Are there teenagers there or all adults? Because I have success for teens books that can help teenagers with goals! :)

We do not work with teens at this event, but some of the philosophies behind the success for teens books will likely be just as helpful for the adults you work with if they are trying to goal set. Thanks for thinking of this!
