American Red Cross Boston Food Pantry provides a 5-day emergency supply of food once a month to low-income clients- about 105k annually or 400- 500 families per distribution day- making it one of the largest food pantries in New England.
The Wednesday Food Distribution event includes preparing 'wet' bags of perishable food, assisting clients with the intake process, i.e. translation of languages(Chinese,Creole, ESL,Russian, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Spanish, etc), carrying food bags out of the pantry for clients to their cars, etc.
Ability to lift 25lbs. and stand for 3+ hours
In cold weather dress warmly b/c work in & outside pantry can be vry cold!
Dressing 'comfortable' but no cut off shorts, mini skirts, half shirts, open-toed shoes/sandals, please!
Ability to take direction willingly and to work comfortably in a diverse environment.
While the Food Pantry shares the building with Liquor Land, Fastenal and The Hen House, the actual entrance is on Proctor St. or in the rear of the building, not on Mass Ave.
There IS parking! It is very limited behind the pantry, past Liquorland's lot. There is parking on Procter St. across from the entrance to the pantry. On corner of Mass Ave. + Procter St. there is a parking lot, via Magazine St.
