Few areas in health are as misunderstood and fraught with misinformation as the field of diet and supplementation. Conflicting fad diets sprout monthly. And despite 50 years of irrefutable research to the contrary, almost everyone still believes in the theory of free radicals and oxidative stress, and the in value of antioxidant supplements. Even those interested in whole foods nutrition often take synthetic vitamins in pharmacological doses without realizing the incongruence of their approach.
This group is for people who are ready to learn about whole food nutrition and supplementation. Members will have opportunities to find out how to make simple yet powerful lifestyle changes to empower them to take charge of their wellness. We will review current research, investigate indigenous (paleo/primal) cultures, and discuss Chinese and Tibetan Medicine perspectives on nutrition. We will move beyond nutrition and talk about living a life that promotes wellness. We will share experiences and open an ongoing dialogue and discussion around strategies for creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Rowdy Mermaid taproom would love to host a meetup about the benefits of fermented foods. If you know someone who is very knowledgeable on the subject, having them speak would be great. Otherwise, the group is definitely welcome to come to Rowdy Mermaid for a tasting of kombucha (fermented tea)---all of the employees have a very good understanding of kombucha, its benefits, and the brewing process. I am interning at Rowdy Mermaid for the summer, and I would love to propose the idea to the owner if you are interested. We might be able to coordinate something with Ozuke as well (they make tons of yummy pickled products).
