Mount Yale is a 14er in the Sawatch Range near Buena Vista. This is a STRENUOUS hike. The distance is roughly 9.5 miles and vertical gain 4300'. This is not a good introductory winter 14er hike. Bring winter gear and SNOWSHOES. Post hike meal somewhere in Buena Vista.
Tonight, we'll explore a few trails around White Ranch starting at the parking lot off the Belcher Trail (near 93) I'm aiming for about 5 miles with about 2000' of gain Bring water and a HEADLAMP! Bad weather i.e. pouring rain or snowstorm cancels. We can meet at the Park n Ride across from Eldorado Corner Market to coordinate carpool. This 13er is in James Peak Wilderness area off of the Fall River Road exit! This is a class 2 hike in summer but probably a class 3 with snow. It is approximately 8 miles round trip and ~3000 feet in elevation gain. Start Elevation: 10400’ End Elevation: 13294’ Skill Level: Strenuous https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/colorado/james-peak-trail Carpool location: Skier’s lot (1682 S Foothills Hwy, Boulder, CO), Coordinates: 39°57'14.2"N 105°13'52.8"W Trailhead location: St Mary's Glacier Trailhead, Coordinates: 39°49'38.4"N 105°38'34.7"W This hike is for the fit and acclimated. Meet at 7:00am at Skier’s lot to organize carpool. If you are driving to trailhead by yourself, meet us at 8:10am at St Mary's Glacier Trailhead. We will start hiking promptly at 8:20am so don't be late. If you have a reliable car, please be prepared to drive. Please remember to give your driver $6 for gas, car wash and parking fee. It is always appreciated. Make sure to bring water, snacks, warm layers and micro-spikes (maybe snowshoes). Bad weather postpones/cancels.
