Proposing BSC Events...Go for it!

Howdy All,

As you probably already know, all BSC members are welcome and encouraged to propose events. Whether you're looking for people to share the ride to the local mountains, would like to host a Happy Hour or organize a more adventurous trip farther afield...please do! All we ask is that it's related to skiing and snowboarding (no MLM or other such things please).

In order to get the best turnout for your event and have a great event, here are some suggested best practices:

For all events:

Be specific! For example - Breckenridge on Saturday, leaving Southern Sun at 6:00AM or Happy Hour at Sherpas - 6:30PM next Wednesday. (Just examples, feel free to propose whatever sounds like fun to you)

Post the event at least 3 days and preferably a week or more in advance. BSC members are an active crew and probably already have plans for tomorrow.

In our experience, you'll get a much better turnout by posting well in advance and proposing a specific trip or event.

For day trips to the local mountains:

Southern Sun (Table Mesa and Broadway) is a good meeting place in Boulder for day trips. It's easy for everybody in Boulder to get to, has plenty of parking and they don't seem to mind if you leave cars there all day.

6:00AM is good departure time for weekends and trips to Vail and Beaver Creek and 6:30 for weekday trips. These are suggested departure times, feel free to propose other times. Please ask people to be there 10 minutes in advance to organize the carpool(s).

Since we have a quite a few members who live in Denver, we recommend that groups also stop at the Woolly Mammoth Park and Ride near I-70 and C470. We usually meet under the JJ sign. 30-35 minutes later than the departure from Boulder is generally enough time to get to Woolly JJ unless the roads are bad.

Please remind people to bring cash to reimburse drivers for gas, parking, wear and tear and a car wash after the trip. It's also nice to buy them a coffee for the ride home.

Ask members to indicate when they RSVP whether they'll be meeting up with the group in Boulder or Denver, whether they are willing to drive and how many open seats they will have. This will help make sure there are enough seats for everybody.

Check the Meetup site on the morning of departure to see who's coming. You can use the Meetup App or mobile website ( We try really really hard to not leave anyone behind. If you RSVP and can't make it, please cancel your RSVP.

A few suggestions for when you're on the mountain:

Be sure to exchange phone numbers with everybody in your car on the way up. It's also a good idea to have a default meeting time/place e.g. the car, a bar or other landmark at 3:30 in case someone's cell phone dies. That way you can be sure to connect at the end of the day. Be sure everybody is accounted for before leaving....especially if someone is riding up in one car and back in another.

For larger groups, we usually take the first lift ride together and then break up into smaller groups based on ability/speed. We generally try to not let anyone ski/ride alone. However, if you're the only novice on the trip with a bunch of speed demons, don't expect everyone to cruise green groomers with you.

Propose a meeting place for lunch on the mountain. That way everybody has a chance to socialize regardless of which group they are skiing with.

There's still plenty of skiing left this season, if you've been thinking about organizing an event...go for it!

Please let us know if you have any questions.
