What we're about

Bournemouth and Poole Wellness Centre Boot Camp!

The purpose of this Meetup is to connect with those people who prefer to exercise outdoors and make friends with like minded people. We want to create a community of healthy active members with a sense of fun. Going to the gym can be daunting for some. It is easy to feel as if you are being judged on your body shape and fashion sense, with mirrors and posers all around in abundance. It can also be very insular, with music so loud you can't have a conversation, or people wearing earphones. Even in group classes there is no communication between participants and everybody disappears within 30 seconds of the class finishing. There is also the aspect of working in a forced air environment with everybody's germs and smells being recycled.

We are very different, we get people to work outside in the fresh air, and engage with each other, in pairs or teams, doing exercises, games or races. The sorts of games we play are Touch British Buldog, Stick in the Mud, Tig, Non-stop cricket, skipping with everybody on one long rope, leap frog, wheelbarrow races and piggy-back races. In fact all the games you used to play before the world went health and safety mad. Come and get in back in touch with your inner child.

Fashion is not an issue, come in what is comfortable and suitable for the weather. We do work hard, with activities pitched to each individual’s fitness level, fitter members exercise at a higher intensity, but we are very inclusive. We like smiles on faces, when people are having fun they tend to work harder without realising it, and therefore get better results. The sense of community we engender makes exercising with friends something members want to come to and be part of rather than something they feel they should do.

Each session will cost £3.00 however your first taster session is free.

We also have other events, such as mountain bike rides, kayaking, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, mystery runs/walks on Sundays, paint balling, and occasional socials.

Boot Camp for Early Risers

Durley Chine Harvester

Bournemouth and Poole Wellness Centre Boot Camp! You do not have to be fit to start. But you have to start to get fit! We meet in the car park by the Durley Chine Harvester at Durley Chine Road BH2 5JF at 05:55 each Thursday and Monday whatever the weather. It is run a bit like a cross between a military boot camp and a school playground, ensuring everybody gets a good workout REGARDLESS of fitness level. The emphasis is on working hard and having a giggle while we do it. We vary it each week but we include body weight exercises and partner exercises for all muscle groups with games, competition, and races thrown in. Each session costs £3.00 but your taster session is free. As you would probably expect, political correctness is absent along with sympathy, but you do get abuse for free. The objective is to finish with people knackered but smiling. it is a world of difference from beasting yourself in front of the TV or in a sweaty gym. A by product is that it creates community spirit and people find training buddies for the other days of the week. Remember to bring some water for during the activity and a protein snack for after the session. Dress for the weather, bearing in mind we get warm very quickly. It is not a fashion show, dark scruffs are ok, (we sometimes get dirty or sandy) We recommend that you DO NOT go barefoot on the beach during the session. Sharp objects, tentpegs, screws and parts of BBQs have been found, particlarly as the weather improves and it gets busier. A head torch on dark mornings would be good but not essential. A positive attitude and a sense of humour is essential however! We have a rule of no BMW’s (No bitching no moaning and no whining) Another stipulation is absolutely, definitely, NO negativity. Cant is something you do to wine. Infringement of these rules brings an instant award of burpees for all. A towel and a warm top for after the session is a good idea. I hope to see you there, please RSVP to let me know if you are coming, it makes it easier for planning activities. My Mobile number is[masked]. Please arrive for 0555 so we can start at 0600 sharp and finish by 0700.

Mystery 3 to 6 mile trail with the Wessex Hash House Harriers

I shall be taking part in a mystery run/walk on Sunday morning with the Wessex Hash House Harriers from The Hamworthy Club Magna Road Wimborne BH21 3AP . All are welcome no matter your fitness level. There is a walking group with children and dogs welcome that go about 2.5 - 3.0 miles, and a running group that go a bit further and faster, about 5 - 6 miles, although it is stop start as the trail is found. The "hashers" have a similar irreverent unPC sense of humour similar to mine and are a very friendly bunch. You would be made very welcome. It is £2.00 for the event although your debut session is free. A change of footwear and trousers is a good idea for the pub afterwards. It is described by themselves as the following Fashioned after an old fashioned ‘Paper Chase’, it is a fun, fair but non competitive Cross Country run/walk to promote the sport, exercise and offer a social outlet. It’s simple to organise and easy to participate, requiring little besides enthusiasm. Truly democratic, it transcends race, rank and religion. The benefits are fitness, fellowship and fun, and there lie the secrets to its popularity. Its FUN, Enjoy. We run/walk every Sunday at 11am...Check out website www.wessexh3.co.uk You can also check them out on their FB page Wessex Hash House Harriers
