Bournemouth Speakers Club

Moordown Community Centre

The The club aim is to provide a safe friendly space in which to learn how to deliver a speech or “say a few words “with confidence. There are 3 speeches every session when you either choose the subject yourself or it is chosen for you by the Educational Director. These speeches aim to be 10 minutes maximum. Halfway through the meeting there is a break for coffee and friendly discussion. This is followed by a topic session when everyone can speak if they want to for 2 ½ minutes on a subject chosen by the topic Chairperson for the evening and announced just before the break. This can be great fun and is the less formal part of the evening. Additionally you have the opportunity to learn how to be a Chairperson and how to take and “write up” minutes. The Social Secretary organises 3 social events each year. The Guest Night before Christmas (photos on the facebook page) and an Annual Dinner, black tie event, which has been fixed to take place on 6th April 2019. The summer barbeque is a casual event held in a member’s garden. Other roles within the club include evaluating and timing the speeches, running the web site and social media. All this is overseen by the President who is newly appointed annually.
