Join us for a day of hiking and eagle watching at the Land Between the Lakes on the shores of Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. January and February are prime bird watching months as Bald Eagles (and maybe even Golden Eagles) from the Great Lakes region are overwintering in the balmy Kentucky weather.
This is a join event with Team Green (http://www.teamgreenadventures.com/), Nashville's original Adventure Club . CLICK HERE (http://www.meetup.com/Bowling-Green-Hiking-Meetup/photos/520600/) to see photos from last year's eagle hike.
Meeting time: 7:00 AM (in Bowling Green)
Hike Distance: 8-10 miles
Estimated Hike Time: 6 hours
Well behaved dogs are welcome
People traveling from Bowling Green will meet up at 7:00 in the parking lot of the old mall (WKU small business center) on the corner of Campbell lane and Nashville Rd (across Nashville Road from the Kroger shopping center) and carpooling/ caravaning to LBL.
We will most likely be hiking part of the North/ South trail and you should be prepared to travel 8-10 miles round trip. We will not go if it is raining or it is predicted to rain. Dress warmly in layers, wear sturdy boots, and bring plenty of water and lunch. We will have a few spotting scopes and binoculars but if you have your own, please bring them.
Once we get to LBL, we'll meet up with Team Green members at the visitors center to find out if the eagles have been hanging out in any particular areas. If the birds are scattered about, we'll hike a section of the North/South trail from Sugar Bay to Duncan Lake (this is where the birds were hanging out at this time last year). After that we'll head over to the Woodsland Nature Station and hike around the Honkers Bay before heading back.
