Weekday hike - Mammoth Cave First Creek Trail

  • Lets push this one back a week to June 25 and hope for drier weather.
  • We'll try a weekday hike to Mammoth Cave for next Tuesday because the weather looks nice (mid 80's) for late June.  Tuesdays were the most popular day when I polled everyone earlier so we'll see if people can make it.
  • Hike Stats

Meeting time:  10:30 AM  at Fairview

    Hike Distance: 6.7 miles

    Estimated Hike Time: 4 hours

    Difficulty: moderate

Well behaved dogs are welcome - Mammoth Cave has a strict leash law

People traveling from Bowling Green can meet up in the Fairview Shopping Center Parking lot to Carpool/ caravan up to Mammoth Cave National Park. I'll be parked in the middle of the lot with a red 4-runner. At about noon, we will meetup at the Temple Hill parking lot on Houchins Ferry Road (On East side of the road near First Creek Lake). HOUCHINS FERRY IS CLOSED SO YOU MUST ACCESS THE SITE FROM THE NORTH. This is where we will end the hike and we'll leave some vehicles in this lot. Next we'll carpool up to the parking area on Houchins Ferry Road on the north edge of the park (near ollie Rd) and start hiking south on First Creek Trail. The trail will take us down to the Nolin River and around First Creek Lake (see link to map below). Be sure to wear appropriate cloths and boots with good ankle support. Bring plenty of water and a snack. If you know you will be meeting up with the group at the park, please let me know so we'll know not to wait on you at the shopping center.

Sorry I can't make next week's hike Phil. But I will (happily) instead be on a hike in Linville Gorge in NC.

I will meet you at the Park at 1:30 - Temple Hill lot. I only hike there in the winter. Do I need long pants for this hike for tick protection?? Thanks.

I have gone on a couple of hikes at MCNP in the last month. The ticks are bad this year, so yes, I would recommend long pants.

Normally this would be perfect for me, (day and time wise) but I promised a friend to help her :(
