Mammoth Cave - First Creek Trail

Let's head out to First Creek Trail in Mammoth Cave National Park on Saturday.

Hike Stats

Meeting time: 8 AM Central in Bowling Green, 9 AM at the trail head.
Hike Distance: 6.7 miles
Estimated Hike Time: 4 hours
Difficulty: moderate

Well behaved dogs are welcome - Mammoth Cave has a strict leash law. People traveling from Bowling Green can meet up in the Fairview Shopping Center Parking lot at 8AM to Carpool/ caravan up to Mammoth Cave National Park. We'll meet up in the middle of the parking lot.

At 9AM, we will meet up at the parking area on Houchins Ferry Road on the north edge of the park (near Ollie Rd). Be sure to drive up 259 through Brownsville, east on 728 and then south on Ollie Road to the trail head because the ferry at Houchins Ferry doesn't start until 10:15 and we want to be on the trail by that time in the morning. We'll shuttle a few cars down to the trail end at the Temple Hill parking lot on Houchins Ferry Road (On East side of the road near First Creek Lake). This is where we will end the hike and we'll leave some vehicles in this lot to take drivers back to their cars at the end of the hike. Next we'll start hiking south on First Creek Trail. The trail will take us down to the Nolin River and around First Creek Lake (see link to map below). Be sure to wear appropriate cloths and boots with good ankle support. Bring plenty of water and lunch. Click here for trail maps

I'm hoping I'll be able to make it to the hike Saturday and if I am there, look for a red 4-runner in the middle of the Fairview Plaza parking lot. If not, its usually pretty easy to see the other members of the group. The Fairview lot is pretty deserted at that hour so park away from the stores in the middle and others will show up soon enough. Standing outside your car helps let others see where you are waiting. Hopefully I'll see everyone there Saturday.

I'll be coming from the east, so I'll meet everyone at the parking lot near Ollie Rd. If anyone wants to to carpool, they can meet at Fairview at 8.
