Boynton Beach Literary was launched by Mark Spivak, former mentor at 4 Authors By Authors. It is designed for writers at all stages of their development who feel they need assistance with direction, craft, and taking their work to the next level. A serious approach and a high level of commitment are required, along with the desire to participate. Hobbyists are welcome, but dilettantes need not apply.
If you're a prospective new member, send a writing sample (as a Word attachment) to email@example.com. The sample can be anything: a short story, first chapter of a novel, poem or blog post. Mark is the only one who will see your sample. Sending it in doesn't amount to an audition, but rather a good faith indication of seriousness and intent. If you have any questions, please address them to Mark's email: do not leave messages here. Since Mark will spend time reviewing and editing your sample, you'll need to submit it no later than 24 hours prior to the Meetup.
During the Meetup, members participate in a group discussion and receive a private, one-on-one critique from Mark on the progress of their work. This is not a circle critique group where members receive feedback from other beginners or read their work aloud.
About Mark: He is a full-time, professional freelance writer with four books released by traditional publishers (two non-fiction books and two novels). He is the Wine and Spirits Editor for the Palm Beach Media Group, responsible for curating content across five magazines and their associated websites. In addition, he writes for a national travel site, does copywriting work for a leading charity, and ghostwrites for private clients.
