LA-ADHD and ADD at Alternatives: Trajectories of Attention across the Lifecourse

A discussion of adult ADHD challenges and strategies hosted by cognitive neuroscientist Andrew Hill.

Please rsvp if you are coming and change your rsvp to no if your plans change.  There is free parking after 6 pm on the street.

From Dr. Andrew Hill:

Hi folks, For August's "First Friday", I will give a short talk on how attention changes across the lifecourse, both typical development and attention dysregulation (ADHD, impulsivity, working memory, etc).  I'll talk about what to expect in aging, as wll as when raising ADHD kids.  We will cover various issues, skills, and behavior challenges we see shift from childhood through teens, adulthood, and elder years.

The meeting starts at 6:30 pm, and there is free street parking after 6pm.  Alternatives is at 822 S. Robertson Blvd, Suite 300.  It's the 3rd floor of a big red brick building on the East side of the street.  The numbers the west side of the street do not match, so don't get fooled.  Light refreshments will be served.

See you there!

Best,
Andrew Hill, PhD

Give me a call or email this weekend or next week, Ben, and let's find a time for you to check out what we do: [masked]

Okay. Great. Thanks! Have fun tonight!

I'm still offering to do a Westside location so those of us who leave west of 405 don't have to spend an hour driving to the talk.

Thanks Tish - I'm sure another talk / location would be welcomed, although I live west of the 405 and it only takes me 20 min to get to Robertson, most days. ;)

I regret to say I will be unable to attend the event tonight.

I am so very sorry to have to cancel. I really need to hear this discussion. But we're doing the 18th event over a six week period at our non profit tomorrow and I'm running behind schedule. Must be ADHD! Next time for sure!

I hope you still have seat available for me.:-)

As I've just returned to LA and not yet attended any sessions, forgive me if it would have been obvious to an attendee that a 'single location' be used for the meetings. I look at the traffic and know I'll find myself reluctant to drive to Robertson (though the free parking is a great thing!) If you were to have a second group, focused on the topics outline in your question, what about having it West of the 405? I'm sure we could find a rotating list of Hosts for locations. I can contribute a small theater that seats 50 people. In the Summer months having some meetings in quiet gardens might be nice too.

Hi Tish - I'm not the overall group moderator, just hosting some meetings / talks at our office location. It would be great if you wanted to offer additional meetings!

I was thinking of talking about how attention functions and changes across the lifespan, next time (August). But looks like people already RSVP'd up to the limit - did people want more mindfulness / meditation specific to ADHD, or would "adhd across the ages" be interesting, or some other topic, maybe?

Given the huge #s of aging boomers, I'd be most interested in focus on aging adults w/ADHD.

Same here. I have a mother who is in a steep decline at 88 after suffering a right hemishpere stroke. Her focus of attention seems to trigger hallucinations.

Our RSVPs are filling up more quickly each month, and now we have a growing waitlist. Would people be interested in a 2nd Meetup at Alternatives each month, with similar "Brain Institute" topics, including attention, aging, development, mindfulness, biofeedback, nutrition for the brain, etc?

      I would be interested.

I'm with Renee on choice of topic since I'm one of those aging boomers whose career spanned an era where the 'gift' of multi-tasking was seen as such.. (with enough assistants following through on those tasks begun by people with ADHD it looked like success), I'd be interested in knowing more about both the ADHD and the mindfulness of the aging brain.

Is this the same presentation as a couple of weeks ago, or additional information?

    June 19, 2014

    • Walt H

Okay - I did note that the ADHD meeting was listed as a monthly thing.

      June 19, 2014

    • Andrew H.

Yup, Walt - always ADHD, but we rotate between presenters, practical / experiential stuff (mindfulness), group discussions, etc. Soliciting suggestions for future months!
