For me the ideal event is very informal, quiet, focused on conversation, and everybody is actually speaking Portuguese. The other New York group is useless to me because it's all samba and expensive classes. I just want to meet others and improve.
I speak at an advanced intermediate level. I can get by in conversation, but there's plenty of room for improvement. As my step mom lives in Israel, I don't get to practice much here, but I read the news in Portuguese and so on.
I was there once for three weeks in March 06. I went with my step-mom to visit her family. I spent most of time in Porto Alegre. It was great!
Hi, my name is Yakov and I live in New York. I love languages in general and Portuguese in particular. I started learning Portuguese because my step-mom is from Rio Grande do Sul, so I speak a bit like a gaucho.
Have only been to their bate-papos, but these are wonderful!
