What we're about

Formed in 1987, we seek to develop and support writers in the Bryan/College Station area specifically and the Brazos Valley generally. We offer monthly meetings, workshops, contests, programs, critique groups, and other services to get people started writing and to help them continue writing.

A Virtual Inklings Roundtable Critique

Online event

J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and friends once gathered as the Inklings writing group. They read aloud their work that became books like “The Lord of the Rings” and the “Narnia” series as well as novels, plays, poems, short stories, and non-fiction.

Brazos Writers is holding its first free Inklings-inspired roundtable reading critique in a virtual setting September 21st at 7 p.m. Log on with up to 700 words of your writing and read. Listeners will, as Inklings scholar Dr. Diana P. Glyer wrote, “they express confidence in the writer’s talents and show faith in his or her ability to succeed.”

We’ll random select the order. Message Mike here for more info and the link.

Motivational Check-in & Critique (Weekly on Google Meet)

Having issues motivating yourself as we come out of social isolation? Check in Mondays on Google Meet for accountability and feedback on ongoing writing projects. Post links to work for critique or bring a ten-minute idea/proposal/problem for the group to brainstorm.

Even if you don't have work to critique, make this a regular time to motivate and hold each other accountable for making weekly progress.

Consider setting weekly goals for yourself and voicing them to the group. A weekly check-in can be helpful. Check the gDoc to critique work others have posted for the week (or past weeks).

Contact Mike Downey (BW President) to get access to the gDoc with member writings.

WARNING: There have been repeated issues with the links shared on MeetUp, so the more reliable link will be a Google Calendar invite in your email inbox.

Brazos Writers social

Get together with writers in the community and learn what Brazos Writers is all about. If you're interested in writing, join us. This is purely a social event. If you are a published member of the group and willing to donate a copy of one of your books as a door prize, please let Fidel Fernandez know.
