Join our intrepid band of volunteers and help to build a wide-area IoT network for the Greater Brighton area. When fully built out, it will span the coast from Newhaven to Bognor & beyond. We affectionately call our network "the Everynet" because it will allow you to connect everything to the Internet.
Brighton & Sussex Everynet is part of a global movement called the Things Network (https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/). It started in Amsterdam in 2015, with the aim of building a community IoT network which is open and free to use. Now more than 200 communities around the globe are building such networks, including many cities here in the UK.
We will build our network using a wireless technology called LoRa. It's well suited to building an open community network. Both commercial and open-source hardware & software solutions are available. Sounds like mumbo-jumbo to you? Don't worry, you will learn everything you need to know along the way.
What are the benefits?
Among the many benefits of participation are:
• Attend free UX design workshops, hackathons and technical training courses.
• Be social, meet great people and share ideas about the future shape of technology
• Help to solve some of the most pressing social and environmental problems facing our generation today.
