Booze and Books Monthly Meetup

The genre for May is: travel writing. And the book of the month is: "A Walk In The Woods" by Bill Bryson.

I really wanted to choose a Dervla Murphy book, but her writing divdes people terribly. Let us say she is feisty, strong-minded and opinionated. Look her up in GoodReads - if you like what you see, I recommend reading one of hers.

If you'd prefer a New Zealand writer, there's Joe Bennet and "Where underpants come from: from checkout to cotton field - travels through the new China".

BTW, I found travel writing on the non-fiction shelves, "A Walk In The Woods" is 917.404.

Great company, interesting perspective on the book in that some liked the history where as I liked the travel log and their experiences. Good conversation about all sorts of topics with a small but interesting crowd. Good on everyone for showing up on State of Origin night. Thank you Guy for choosing the book and organising the meet up.

Unfortunately I have a rather horrid assignment due tomorrow so won't be able to come tonight.
I'm very much enjoying the book though - have fun tonight :-)

I bought this book and am slogging through it. I enjoy when Katz appears as he adds a bit of comic relief with his throwing out all possessions to get his pack liter.

I read "absolutely faking it" which was by Tiana Templeman a Brisbane Writer about going to ten 5 star hotels she and her husband won a competition and were given this. One was the Ritz in Paris another the Dorchester in London. They were use to backpacking. It was a true education for backpackers to go there. They had free accomodation and some meals but very little money for anything else.
