What we're about

Dear Members,

Please join us for a coffee (or anything else you'd like) at a café whilst enjoying an afternoon of French/English language exchange. We will enjoy 30 minute blocks of English and French conversation between the hours of 2.00pm and 5.00pm.

GOAL

To provide a relaxed and friendly environment where you can develop your linguistic skills and abilities in the language that you are learning whilst helping others develop their abilities in the language of which you are already fluent or advanced.

Our goal is to have an even number of French and English speakers (so please sign up only if you are sure you can attend).

After each block of 30 minutes, members are reminded to change languages.

You are welcome to change groups after each 30 minute block . Feel free to bring dictionaries or paper to take notes.

REQUIREMENTS

Since this is a conversation group, we kindly ask that you have a minimum of A2+/B1- (Advanced Elementary/Beginner Intermediate, Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

We hope to see you at the café!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Chers membres,

French "Acting" Class

The Burrow

We'll meet downstairs at the Burrow in West End and do a "French Acting Class", going through a real-life everyday French dialog and learning it as an actor would.

The process pretty much follows a language learning concept known as "Shadowing" (which essentially means practising imitating & mimicking the natural speakers).

Here are the dialogs to choose from:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1595GCUMbx4OC5fxQwIOg_AMzla7tL0le?usp=sharing

The dialogs have links to the video/audio, where you can hear the pronunciation in real time. They also highlight various things such as idiomatic expressions, or subjunctive moods, or just street-use words.

We'll also try to explain any grammar points as required to help you understand it.

(If your French grammar is poor, and you're not already using a decent grammar app, the Dr French app is great)

You'll then get a chance to adopt the role of a francophone, and speak the dialog as they speak - accent, interjectory words, etc - and afterwards leverage that dialog into your own general conversation.

Your role is to mimic and master their pronunciation, and their fluidity.
The video will help you do that (in effect, it provides all the answers).

It you want to work on your accent, we'll try to provide basic help as best we can, such as how to reshape your mouth, how to pronounce R's, etc.

This is designed to help overcome the shortage of practice in Brisbane, plus provide you with good resources to continue that practice.

Even if you feel your French speaking skills are a bit sketchy at the moment, you'll have a dialog in front of you, which takes away the pressure of not knowing what to say, or having to think up grammar structures in your head.
