Outsourcing and Design

Outsourcing

Jacqueline and Nicola from Webhost will be giving a talk on using a local designer and the benefits of local support. They will be using one of their projects to highlight this by showing a website from the beginning with a chosen template, then adding the required artwork to customise the site for the client and then the programming of Nicola to bring all of this together. This will be of particular interest to people beginning out in Joomla as much as it will be to more experienced users who will have more questions I am sure around the design aspects.

Some food for thought, what does outsourcing artwork really cost you. How different is the final cost from the bid price? If you have an opinion, then lets see you here to give your input and help this meeting be of benefit to all attending.

Hi folks, At the last meeting I asked a question about how to speed up Joomla, and I was surprised at the answer. Perhaps I misunderstood. So for clarification... "Does disabling a plugin stop its script/s loading?"

The answer from Andrew E was, as I recall, "No it doesn't — the scripts still load even if they are disabled. You need to uninstall them". Andrew (or others), are you able to verify this, or elaborate at all? thanks,
    Geoff

Hi Geoff — I think this would depend on the plugin and the scripts in question. e.g I have several plugins that load scripts, when they are disabled the scripts don't load. In the case of our code include plug-in the scripts are only loaded if the page is using the plugin not otherwise.

Morning Guys just correcting a few things for the meeting on outsourcing. Nicola and I have a business called Webcoast on the Sunshine Coast. I am a graphic designer learning Joomla and Nicola is a web developer. Nicola isn't attending but I wanted to talk because I think its important to keep design work local or at least in Australia. I enjoy the meetings and trying to keep up with the code talk ?!#@ but I'm looking forward to hearing about your thoughts on the design aspect, see you wednesday!

Hi Jacqueline, was going to give u a call over the weekend about this. Will you still be able to show template to final output with artwork to highlight the importance from one of your sites?
