Surf at Fingal Headland

Fingal Rovers Surf Life Saving Club

Hi all. I hope everyone has been getting waves in the transition from Autumn to Winter. Bring on the offshore westerlies and southerly swells in the coming winter months! Our next social surf is at Fingal Headland, just over the border in New South Wales. Since Fingal it is a little further drive than normal for our surf's, the start time is also a little later. For those of you who aren't familiar with this spot, it is often overlooked by surfers looking for waves as it is a slight detour off the highway between Tweed Heads and Kingscliffe, and further south to Byron Bay. The wave is a mixture of righthand pointbreak and left/right reef in front of the Fingal Rovers Surf Life Saving Club, semi-protected in southerly winds. Further North to the Tweed River are beach breaks to suit all abilities. Around the sand pumping jetty there is the occasionally challenging surf due to the currents. South of the Headland is a beachbreak option if the wind is Northerly. Some information on Fingal https://www.ozbeaches.com.au/blogs/beaches/letitia-spit-gateway-to-the-tweed-river-and-engineering-marvel We will meet at the Surf Club and assess the condition from there. Beginners don't be shy, come along! As always, I will give free tips and a surf lesson. We will catch up for a coffee afterwards. See you there! Ash

Spring Surf Competition and BBQ at Main Beach - Hollindale Park

Hey members, We are having our 2nd ever fun and friendly surfing competition to be held on 28 September somewhere between the Main Beach Surf Club and the Seaway Jetty on the Gold Coast! We recognise that the surfing ability levels varies widely amongst you all, so to encourage as many members as possible to join in and participate in a fun surfing competition, we will have two divisions each for women and men. There will be a beginner to intermediate division and an intermediate to advanced division. Unlike our last competition which was a teams event, this time we will run heats with 2 or 3 individual competitors in the same way as other surfing competitions, depending on the number of entries there are. Members are most welcome to invite surfing friends who aren't members of Brisbane Surf Club to participate in the competition. Our last competition was a super fun day, absolutely enjoyed by all who attended. Even if you do not want to participate in the competition, we encourage all of our members to come along and enjoy the day and BBQ afterwards in the adjacent Hollindale Park. The details:- Date: Saturday 28th September 2019 Meetup time: 6:30am Surf Spot: Main Beach, Gold Coast Meeting address: Northern end of Hollindale Park, Main Beach, Gold Coast. Refer to the map. 6:30 Member gathering 7:00 Event Commencement & Announcement 7:15 Comp Start Womens Beginner/Intermediate Division Mens Beginner/Intermediate Division Womens Intermediate/Advanced Division Mens Intermediate/Advanced Division Comp Finish & Preparing BBQ BBQ & Result announcement The timing of the comp depends on how many entries there are, so it is really, really helpful for our planning that you let us know if you wish to participate. See below for details. Entry is really easy. If you want to compete, Members can simply register at https://www.brisbanesurfclub.com/copy-of-autumn-surf-comp or RSVP to the Meetup or contact Matt or Ashley. Whether you are competing or not, please RSVP to the Meetup. When entering, let us know what division you want to surf so we can organise the heat draw. For people who want to compete there will be a $10 entry fee which is just to cover logistics. There is no charge for non-competitors. We will have a BBQ after the comp (BYO food and drinks) in Hollindale Park and announce the results and prizes. Yes prizes!!! :-) Members are very much welcome to bring along friends and family. BSC leadership members are preparing this comp for safe and enjoyable one. The surf and weather condition will be carefully monitored and be announced to all the participants. Note that our permit allows us to run the competition on the 28 September if the conditions are not so good on the 27 September. If you are interested to join our leadership team and plan and organize the comp, please contact Matt or Ashley. See you there for an awesome day! Ash and Matt
