Social Afternoon (Apr)

  • Apr 12, 2014 · 3:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

4pm topic: Polyamory beyond SE Queensland".  Mik Sheper, long term polyamorous adventurer and world traveller shares some of his experience of being poly in San Francisco, Amsterdam, Sydney and elsewhere, and discusses the relationship between community and polyamory.'

We have a semi-private and quiet meeting space in West End at the Boundary Hotel.  Enter through the main doorway and go upstairs. We are in the front glass-doored room directly above the monthly record fair, looking out across Boundary Street and the cinema. This is a child-friendly premises.

Social 3:00pm - 5:30. (And planning meeting at one of the bars each month 2:00-3:00, anyone welcome)

The hotel bar and kitchen are functioning.

If we remember, we will ask for a gold coin donation to cover basic costs

Nearby trains (South Bank) and buses (a few mins walk). There should be ample parking in nearby streets (but unlikely in Boundary St itself).

Event Notes:
The Saturday Social is held at a semi-private room at a public hotel. Conversations can be assumed to be adult level and specifically themed to polyamory, so attendance of youngsters should only be at considered parent discretion. This is a suitable event for new members of BPP, and existing members may bring poly or poly-friendly guests. Please don't take photos at the Social. Remember this is safe space for our members, so please protect attendees' privacy after you leave the gathering.

Maree, I'd just like to clarify that the 'suspending judgement for now' comment was not made by me. There were two Paul's at the meetup on Saturday :-)

thanks Paul, that does clarify things! I did think I had the two different Pauls identified in my head, but clearly that bit I mixed up. I would have still replied, but may have been less upfront, ah well, lesson learned :-) xm

I loved the vibe of the group, the talk was a bit too *how many lovers have I had* to be very satisfying for me, no doubt cos I'm currently celibate & not by choice ;-)
I liked the snippets re what it's like in San Francisco, though I got more evocation of that from reading The Fifth Sacred Thing.
It's tricky as a structure I think, cos for first timers, the invited guest is giving the *tone* of the whole group.
If the *post talk* Q&A was facilitated by one of BPP's Poly People, perhaps that would have balanced the tone up more?
I got a lot more from Brian's brief orientation talk, tho I get that for long term members that must be like a *pre-flight* talk about life-vests ;-)
Overall, I'm extremely grateful such a group exists,
finding other people who even understand what Poly IS, is a blessed relief :-) xm
