Welcome. Bristol Everyday Mindfulness is a group that meets to cultivate a foundation of mindfulness that is then taken out and practiced within everyday life. Throughout the day. whether working, walking, relating to loved ones, cooking, watching television e.t.c, we can have an intention to bring mindfulness to all aspects of our lives.
So why hold the intention to practice everyday, throughout the day? Because the bias is for us to go unconscious and live solely through and from our thinking minds when we become challenged, distracted, bored or uncomfortable. Sitting Mindfulness meditation is where the story begins, but for self transformation to go deep and wide it needs to be practiced in the field of everyday life. If mindfulness is reserved just for sitting, or when we feel calm and in control, it can only go so far into our lives. It cannot really cultivate the liberation, love and compassion that as beings we long to experience in our daily lives. Mindfulness practiced with the intention of just feeling better is a beautiful, completely valid practice. Yet if you feel drawn to something deeper, that your life holds potential you yearn to unlock, then this group could be for you.
My name’s Chris, and it’s my honour and pleasure to bring the full potential of mindfulness to others, as I have discovered it’s limitless potential within myself.
The evening will start with a short mindfulness of breathing sitting meditation. Then I’ll talk about some aspect of practicing mindfulness in everyday life, the challenges and rewards it can bring. relating it to examples from my own life. I’ll introduce micro exercises that can then be used during the week. From there we’ll do another sitting meditation that brings in the aspect covered in the talk. Then I’ll open it out to questions from the group about practicing mindfulness, how it’s gone during the week, what was challenging, what worked e.t.c. Finally in the time honoured way for spiritual groups, we’ll finish the night with tea, biscuits and a chat with others in the group.
The evening is free, with a suggested donation of 3 to 5 pounds, or whatever you can afford to cover room rental, as well as the Meetup group (and biscuits!).
We meet 7.30 - 10.00 on the second and fourth Friday of every month at the Bristol University Chaplaincy on Woodland Road. I hope to see you there.
