We're an a cappella chorus seeking new voices! Do you dig the low bass notes? Like to get funky with tenor lines? All about that alto life? Or do you prefer hanging out up in the rafters with the sopranos? Come hone your skills with us on the *SECOND TUESDAY OF THE MONTH*!
*In August 2018 we will rehearse at St Pauls Church instead of Victoria Methodist*
🎶 If you have even an inkling of interest in joining, please get in touch or just come along to any Bristol A Cappella New Singers Evening! No need to be a professional or have chorus experience. Every week we work on our craft together to develop as singers, and welcome new members once a month to keep everything running smoothly.
If you aspire to fame and glory (yes, there is OBVIOUSLY fame to be had in chorus singing 😉), then you're in for a treat, as we aim to compete in an international contest later this year. Get involved! We'd love to have you.
More details about us:
Bristol A Cappella is a mixed chorus that sings without any instruments. We're very varied in age and repertoire. We sing rock, pop and show tunes, and draw inspiration from the sound of barbershop. We always sing as one unit, creating a beautiful blended sound together.
We welcome new singers to join us on the second Tuesday of each month and we'd love to see you there! Please be aware that in October 2018 and May 2019 we will be competing in IABS and BABS (respectively). You are very welcome to join us in the months prior to these competitions, but please be aware that we'll be focusing more heavily than normal on our two contest songs and accompanying choreography which can be an intense introduction to what we do. If eventually competing with us sounds like something you'd enjoy, PLEASE come get involved as soon as you'd like and test the waters!
Our sister chorus, All Voice, accepts new members at every weekly rehearsal and does not compete, so if you're looking to sing ASAP to ease into things a bit, check them out! https://allvoice.net/
Once you've given BAC a try, we do rehearse every week at the same time and place. For more information please visit our website at http://www.bristolacappella.co.uk
Your first two rehearsals are free, and then we charge a monthly fee to cover rehearsal venue, MD training fees, music and other costs of running a chorus. We do ask every member to have a quick voice check, to check your range.
A few questions that we often get asked...
I’ve never sung before. Can I still give it a go?
Of course. Our group has lots of talented singers but we’ve plenty who’d never sung properly before they started coming along.
Your first week might seem a bit full-on but no-one’s expecting you to hit the ground running. Just come along, give it your best shot and enjoy yourself.. Mistakes are allowed – it's what rehearsals are for.
Do I need to be able to read music?
No. If you can then that’s great and will certainly help you. But, if not, then we’ve got MP3's of each of the songs on our website for our singers to learn from.
This voice check thing sounds scary. Will I have to sing in front of everyone when I arrive?
Absolutely not. The voice check is to make sure you're singing the correct part for your voice, and eventually to check you're on the right track learning the music. We don't expect you to be off music straight away, so there's no pressure. And no, it’s not in front of everyone.
For now just roll up to a New Singers Evening and find out whether you enjoy it!
There aren’t many people signed up. Is it still going ahead?
Yes. We typically get 30-35 current members at every rehearsal but not all of them are on Meet-Up so you won’t see them on here.
Is there anything else I need to know?
We suggest you bring a bottle of water and a pencil. You may want to bring a few quid for a drink in the pub afterwards.
If you have any other questions please do reach out!
