Near and future meetup ideas

Post #: 33
I wanted to toss my ideas out there and see if there was interest. If so, I can make them official :) If you have ideas, post them here, too and I will update the first post!

- Drawing practice / tutorial

- Collaborate on a giant drawing of all the DC Bronies OC's

- Bowling at Lucky Strike. (It's right next to the Verizon Center. Reservations are needed for 8+ people.)

- National Building Museum mini gold () Ends September 3.

- Art of Video Games at the Smithsonian. Ends Sept 30 ()

- King's Dominion

- Bengies drive-in movie ()

- Indoor trampoline park in Sterling VA ( )

- The Maryland Science Center (It's walking distance from the Baltimore Convention Center and the Light Rail, but admission is $16.95.)

- Pony hair styling. After the August new toy releases! Also, search for August new toys!

- Pony Take over / flash mob

- Talent Show. Engineer's CMC routine, BFV's Flim Flam and a ballroom dance number I'm working on would be examples of the types of things we would do. I imagine we can definitely find other skits/plays/musicals/etc that people would love to throw together. Also Hipster Rarity poetry reading

- Gala Meetup - Formal Dinner and Dance (Lessons before-hand by EB and ? - no experience necessary)

- Wreck it Ralph. Opens November 2nd

- Watch the Hobbit. Opens December 14th

- Anime USA. Nov 9-11. ()

- "Equestrian Jeopardy" This could be really fun to do! Pony-themed quiz games!

Completed/Planned meetups:
- 4th of July Fireworks
- Virginia Ren Faire. Ends June 10. ()
- Watch Brave. Opens June 22nd. ()
- Lazer tag!

Ren Faire: Not really my thing, sorry

Art of Video Games exhibit: If others are interested, I'll go. I've been there waaaaaay too many times despite it being a bit underwhelming.

Brave: Maybe if it's not opening day. I've been doing a poor job of not spending money before Bronycon, so I'd rather not be paying top dollar for a movie and the mandatory snacks before then. Otherwise, I'd love to see it during a meetup.

Pony hair styling: YES! A MILLION TIMES YES! My brushables have had disgusting manes for the longest time, not to mention past group trips to Toys R Us proved to be quite amusing.

AUSA: Another maybe. While our meetup at last year's AUSA was fun, I'm not sure if I should go again.

Bowling: Sounds good.

I know it's at the end of the year but what about watching The Hobbit when it comes out December 14th?

DarkPony - I was scouring the internet trying desperately to find a "Purple Hoof" patch that we could present to you next meetup for being "Injured in the Pursuit of Pony" but I can't find a dang thing! I was also going to nab Sue a boy scout first aid badge. :) I'll keep looking.

Where is Virginia's Renn Faire? Might be a bit far for me.

I'm definitely going to see Brave, so why not go with Bronies. :)

I think i'll just stick to Bronycon/Otakon as my conventions this year, for my wallet's sake.

I'll second Twilight's enthusiasm about the hair styling. Poor Fluttershy has had several bad-hair months...but I'm so afraid of using scissors on her. I actually tested out the wrap-boil style on Twilight's mom's gift, but didn't have the guts to try cutting and her hair really is too long/badly shaped without a bit of trim.

I know I plan to see Brave, so the sooner that gets planned the better. I also wouldn't mind checking out the Smithsonian thing.

I updated the first post with your suggestions.

Re: Brave, the cheapest theatre is AMC Courthouse, which is at an exit of the Courthouse orange line metro stop. If we go on Saturday, June 23, we can choose from $6 at 10:30am or $8.75 at 12:50, but the theatre is small and old. Which time sounds better?

Re: Mane styling - sounds good! Now we just need the new toys to get a release date. I'm hoping we can order online, too...

Re: VA ren faire, it is in Spottsylvania, about half way to Richmond, so a ways away. I'm not sure I'll make it to this one, but I will be going to the Annapolis one!

Just a heads up for the VA renn faire in case a last minute meetup is planned, it's smaller and in more sunlight than the MD one. It's much cheaper and easier to move around since I've never seen it crowded.
