1st Bronx Tech Meetup

  • Jan 16, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This is the first Bronx Tech Meetup - brought to you by the folks behind Startup Box (sbsq.org), and Exposure Camp (exposurecamp.org).

We hope to attract people at all levels in the tech community. If you have found success and want to bring back some of what you've learned, or if you are not even sure what is out there, come out and exchange ideas, aspirations, information, and contacts.

This is the ground floor of what we hope will grow into something big!

Just want to make sure all the tech companies in The Bronx know about http://mappedinny.com/. It's a digital map of tech in New York City, and The Bronx is under-represented. If you're in The Bronx and doing tech, you should go to the site and add your company.

Last night was awesome. To be honest, I didn't know what to expect when I signed up. It totally blew my mind that there were so many people there. Looking forward to bigger and better in the future.

Good meetup. I really hope this meetup could be a monthly one. It would be great to start up a think tank in the next meetings.

We are very pleased to see this initiative in the Bronx! It's been a lonely road as a tech company here.

The Bronx is a phenomenal opportunity for technology in NY. Large amounts of commercial space, true neighborhood identities, and a very young work force that is already connected to digital networks.

We'd like to see the Bronx political body and its economic development corporations, embrace computer and networking technology as the most viable engine for bettering life in the Bronx.

After performing extensive research with our partners Mainland Media, we have defined a number of strategic paths that can move the community along in this direction.

It's not just about getting tablet computers in the hands of kids and teenagers so they can consume music videos; we need to build educational spaces where youth can learn a plethora of computer skills, which they can then use to leverage the existing worldwide reputation of the Bronx, and build their borough as they see fit.

Hi. I am Joseph Franklyn McElroy and I am CEO of Corporate Performance Artist. CorporatePA started in 2003 at The Point in Hunts Point. We are a Technology Marketing firm now based in Manhattan. My wife Donna and I still live and are active in the Bronx. I have been on the cutting edge of technology since the 70s. I have helped create industries. I have built and sold technology companies. I have been a leader in advocacy issues such as Open Source. I have utilized technology as an art form that is now in museums. I still develop software, currently working on cross platform mobile apps. I also am partnering with investors to target apps and publishing ventures focusing on New York, with the goal of building a large audience in the worlds biggest metro market. Tomorrow I will be in Pouchkeepsie but will try to make it back for the meeting. If I cannot make it, I still plan on be active in this meetup. Thank you Majora for starting this initiative.

Hey, Jeffrey Hollender here, I'm the founder of a company I started 25 years ago called Seventh Generation, environmental household & personal care products. I'm now working with the Bronx Community Development Initiative to help launch worker owned green business in the Bronx, driven by the purchases of the 13 Anchor institutions in the Bronx we've signed up to participate in the process.
