Brooklyn Kayak Polo Pages

Visualize basketball (or soccer), but played on the East River between Brooklyn and Manhattan, in a kayak. Now picture this for free.

Brooklyn Kayak Guides–in association with the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse and Conservancy–is setting up kayak polo games on Sunday afternoons.

We've got the equipment (kayaks, vests, helmets, paddles), you bring the body, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship (shorts/sandals, too). Your level of experience doesn't matter.

Prepare to get addicted. The first game or so you'll be learning the ropes. Soon you'll be passing the ball like some aquatic-John Stockton. Do you whitewater? Paddle leisurely? Nothing will improve your kayaking skills as rapidly as playing this game.

The catch? We're limited to 10 participants per game, so reserve your spot. We'll put you in a team and give you a vest number. First-come first-served basis. Dedicated players and volunteers, though, will end up being teachers to others.

Season begins in early June and goes on for all 12 Sundays, till late August.

Adult Game One is 12:30pm-1:30pm; adult Game Two is 2pm-3pm.

Arrive at least 20 minutes before game time to be donned with vest, helmet, paddle, and kayak.

Feel free to just stop by and sign up to play, but only if there's a spot available.
