Wednesday looks to be a nice day, projecting mid 70's albeit with light wind. So we'll stretch ourselves on a paddle to the dam. We will meet up at 10 am for a 10:30 launch. The plan is to head downstream from Fountainhead to the dam, then into Hooes Run for a lunch/snack break and to stretch our legs.
This will not be a "power paddle" but we should maintain a 3 to 3.5 mph pace. Our total distance will be 11-12 miles and we will be on the water 3 1/2 to 4 hours.
Fountainhead is a great place to paddle for those who want to push themselves another couple miles and extend the length of their paddles. As always we will poll the group on decision points.
Please bring plenty of water and a snack, and don't forget the sunscreen.
Kayaking is an activity with "assumed risk." Each paddler is responsible for their own safety. We assume no liability, and are not present to guarantee safety. We do however require that you WEAR a pfd, not just carry it. Participants should stick with the group and follow trip leader instructions to ensure kayaking is safe and enjoyable for everyone.
This is not a beginner paddle. Your kayak should should be at least 14 feet long, with bulkheads or flotation (exceptions on a case by case basis). You should be able to paddle for two to four hours and sustain a 3 to 4 mile per hour pace. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you have about the paddle.
Read the description of the posted meetup carefully and know your personal limitations. And please observe the "meet by" and "launch by" times, and allow enough travel time to get to the launch site and on the water, so we can leave promptly at posted launch time.
This paddle is open to Bucket List paddlers who have completed their profile. If your profile is not complete we will add your name to the waitlist.
