Martin Luther King Day Winter Hike around Acton Lake

Martin Luther King Day Winter Hike around Acton Lake

Location: Hueston Woods State Park

Date: January 20, 2014

Meet at the Lodge at Hueston Woods State Park. Hike starts at 9:00AM. Arrive early and have breakfast (you pay for breakfast) with other hikers at the Lodge at 8AM. We will hike around Acton Lake, about 11 miles, on a variety of trails. A bean soup and/or chili and corn muffin lunch will be available at the park office next to the Nature Center. This is a free event although donations are accepted for the lunch. A shuttle back to the Lodge will be available for those wishing to hike only from the Lodge to the Nature Center.

Note: Dogs (all pets) are not allowed in the nature preserve portion of Hueston Woods. There is an easy route bypassing that section if you bring your dog.

Thanks to all who showed up and participated in the annual MLK Day hike around Acton Lake at Hueston Woods State Park. A special thank you goes to Park Manager Mark Lockhart for allowing us to use the kitchen facilities and dining area of the Hueston Room in the Park Office building. I also want to thank BTA member John Rethman for the bean soup and chili he prepared and served and to Chris McIntyre for helping John in the kitchen duties.

Thanks to all the BTA volunteers for organizing this wonderful hike in well marked trails and a great soup. The weather gods blessed this event well.

As usual, it is a long drive to make this event, so we will ne camping on Sunday night in the main campground. There is electric so don't worry about the cold. Bring your own food and "beverages"!
