Leaven Community Buddhist Meditation & Mindfulness Discussion & Conversation
Note: We have about 10-20 regulars that do not rsvp here. We are also beginner friendly. Join Buddhist Meditation and Mindfulness, Saturday mornings from 9:00-10:30am. We are one of four spiritual offerings of Leaven Community and meet at Leaven Community Center (5431 NE 20th Ave). Please arrive 10 minutes early if it is your first time joining us. We sit for fifty minutes (divided into three parts: two twenty minute sitting periods broken up by a ten minute walking meditation). No prior meditation experience needed, just come as you are and be prepared to learn something new about yourself! Meditation is followed by a group discussion, based on basic Buddhist concepts and from a variety of sources. By coming together each week we can strengthen each others mindfulness practice, enjoy community and develop a more mindful outlook with which to live in our interconnected world. Following meditation we meet for beverages, refreshments and conversation about whatever is on our minds. “Buddha is just a Sanskrit word that means ‘someone who is awake.’ A Buddhist is someone who’s trying to wake up to the real conditions of her or his life. That is all.” –Ethan Nichtern, One City: A Declaration of Interdependence Leaven Community organizes members and neighbors to share our stories and spiritual wisdom and to act collectively to cultivate equitable, thriving, diverse neighborhoods. http://leaven.org (http://leavencommunity.org/)
