In Summer of 2015, I fulfilled a long-time dream of walking the Camino Frances, a pilgrimage route on the Camino de Santiago to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. I was so appreciative of the help and advice that I received before starting the pilgrimage, and since returning, have only come across more and more people who have done, or are planning to do, the Camino. The closest "pilgrim community" to SLO is the Santa Barbara Chapter of American Pilgrims on the Camino, (APOC) so I wanted to get something started here. We have so many trails to choose from with perfect terrain for preparing for the Camino Frances. While this meetup is not an official chapter of APOC, if it turns out there's sufficient interest, I will submit the application to make us official. I intend to arrange at least a monthly meet and hike, and other opportunities to offer tips for pilgrims in preparation, watch films/documentaries about the Camino, and otherwise keep the pilgrim spirit strong. Please share your ideas!
Hello all! When I started this group I had no idea how crazy life would get...so I apologize to all of you who were hoping for a Camino group and never got one. I'm determined not to let this group stay dormant any longer, but I am going to keep it simple for now. I'm putting some regular "advice" meetups on the calendar. They'll be 2x a month (once in Morro Bay, and once in SLO). These will be to get together with people who have walked or intend to walk the Camino de Santiago (or other walking pilgrimages) in order to share advice, ask questions, and build community. From there, members can plan training hikes or other activities with one another. Meeting places are where I think will be best for time and location...but depending on number of RSVPs location may change. And, I will be there whether anyone RSVPs or not, so if you decide last minute to come, please do!
