Every Wednesday Baila Salsa has salsa dancing lessons followed by an open dance at the Pucho Olivencia Center.
Here's a summary of how it works.
There is a $5 cover to get in.
From 7-8 there is a group lesson in which you will learn the basic step and a few moves.
From 8-10 there is an open dance where you get to work on the skills you just learned.
People of all skill levels attend this event. Our group will consist almost entirely of newbies so don't feel intimidated if you've never done this (you are not alone).
A partner is not necessary. During the lesson partners rotate every couple minutes so that everyone will dance with everyone. Once the open dance starts guys will typically ask girls to dance and the more experienced dancers will be more than happy to give advice and tips to newcomers.
Footwear is important, especially for girls. Heels or shoes that slide well are best. Try to avoid sneakers and boots. Guys can do just fine in sneakers but dress shoes are even better.
So if you've ever wanted to learn Salsa, this is a great way to start!
