Eastside Overland Trail – Boutwell Hill State Forest – Chautauqua

Note: If you put your name on the waiting list then you will get an email inviting you to decide whether or not you are going to join in this hike a few days before the hike. The first 12 people who respond to that email will be listed as participants in the hike. Those who don't respond to the email will remain on the waiting list which will then operate as a normal waiting list.

I go on these hikes whether or not anyone else joins in, but I need to know if others are joining as I will wait at the trailhead for late arriving participants.

This 6 mile hike will take us over a portion of the Eastside Overland Trail in Boutwell Hill State Forest in Chautauqua County.  We will pass by three ponds and hike into and out of a small but picturesque ravine.

We will start at the parking lot on Boutwell Hill Road, hike to the small parking area on Arab Hill Forest Road, break for lunch, then head back to cars at Boutwell Hill Road.
We won’t hike north of Arab Hill Forest Road because it is presently a logging area.

A waiver of liability will be required. You can download it, sign it, then scan and return it to me by email, fax, or bring a signed copy with you to the hike. (Send me an email through the meetup system and request either the email address for a scanned copy or the fax number for a fax copy.) Here is the link to the release form: Release of Liability.

I am back from my canoe trip. 74 miles in 5 days. Am I in this hike or out? I sent my liability form last week.

My niece's birthday party is now on Sunday due to Saturday's weather forecast. If that changes again, I'll change my RSVP again. Sorry :-(

Great plan! I will see you on Sunday. I wasn't able to do the Polish festival on Sat. Have fun on Friday night and recover in your hammock on Sat.

OK - let's change it to Sunday - only 3 of us signed up for the Saturday hike anyway.

Now it would be better to do the polish festival on Friday night so I don't have to hike with a Tyskie hangover

Although I can do either day, Sunday would be better for me.

I may move this Sunday. right now the weather report for Saturday is for storms as a cold front passes through, with clearing skies and lower temps on Sunday. If that report is the same on Wednesday night then I'll switch this to Sunday.

It is an easy 6 mile hike. My moving average is about 1.5 to 2 miles per hour. Overall average, if i get in my mid-hike nap, is about 1 mile per hour. I like to spend the day in the woods. A few rolling hills to climb and descend of about 100 feet elevation gain and loss, and one small ravine. There are some muddy areas on the trail so you'll want to wear footwear (assuming you are not a barefoot hiker) that you are willing to trudge through the mud.

Ok, I'm more into the short 2-3 hour hikes. Thanks for the info.
