Goat Island/Niagara Falls State Park

This hike is in conjunction with the HIKE NEW YORK STATE AND BEYOND meet-up group.

Goat Island (previously called Iris Island) is a small island in the Niagara River, located in the middle of Niagara Falls between the Bridal Veil Falls and the Horseshoe Falls. The island is at the southwest corner of the City of Niagara Falls (and of Niagara County), New York, in the United States and is part of Niagara Falls State Park.
Goat Island has no residents, but is a popular destination for tourists visiting the falls on the U.S. side; it offers some of the most spectacular views available there, in particular at Terrapin Point. Goat Island is connected to the U.S. mainland by two bridges carrying foot, car, and trackless train traffic, and to the smaller Luna Island (adjacent to the American Falls) by a pedestrian bridge. Goat island is largely wooded and is interlaced with foot trails.

We'll meet in parking lot number 3, at the eastern end of the island, nearest to Grand Island.  At this time of the time, no parking fee is charged to park in the lot (per the Niagara Region Park Interpretive Programs).

Our walk will consist of about a 2 mile loop around Goat Island, a walk to Luna Island (between the Bridal Veil falls and Niagara Falls), over to the mainland, then returning to our vehicles on Goat Island.

We may be walking across the Rainbow Bridge over to Niagara Falls, Ontario, to get a different perspective on the falls.  If so, you will need to either bring your New York State enhanced driver's license or your passport, when going through U.S. Customs.
