The Buffalo Movie and Video Makers (BM-VM) is a local group; a club of cinema enthusiasts who meet once a month as a community of like-minded individuals and hobbyists. It was established in 1934 and is one of the oldest running organizations of its kind in the U.S. We usually meet on the 3rd Mondays of the month from Sept. - June at the Screening Room (880 ALBERTA DRIVE AMHERST, NY 14226. Part of the Boulevard Mall, entrance facing the Wegmans on Alberta drive).
Current and past BM-VM members include amateur filmmakers and advanced filmmakers with more formal education and experience, and ages range from late teens to retirees. All members share some interest in film, whether its learning about various aspects of the filmmaking process, or watching and discussing films made by members (shown on the large screen at the Screening Room) or hearing about the latest technical developments in the home video and professional industry. We may not be everyone's cup of tea, but feel free to come to some meetings to see if you fit in. We can't promise to get your dreams made, that's all up to you and not what we're about, but we can promise to be a supportive shoulder.
Have questions on script writing? We have script writers in the group. Are you intimidated by lighting or camera work? We have people who can give you tips and lend a hand. Do you just need motivation to go and do it? If we can do it, so can you.
There is no admission to attend the meetings, but there is an annual membership of only $20 which allows you to screen your films at meetings, and also to enter and judge entries in our two annual film contests (In October is our Shorty Contest - films 5 minutes or less; in April is our Film Contest for longer entries). Finally, we also have a Facebook page under "Buffalo Movies & Video Makers", https://www.facebook.com/BMVM1934/ . Hope to see you soon!
