Buffalo Gay Pride Parade

Looking for club members to volunteer to walk in this year's Buffalo Gay Pride parade. Member Bill Alexander and doxie Ike have kindly volunteered their awesome "Dachstang" as our float! Please bring along any decorative items you can think of to make our entry great!

Location: The Parade begins at Elmwood and Auburn and ends at the corner of Elmwood and Chippewa. We step off at 1:00PM, please be there early and plan to wait for a bit. Chairs are encouraged to sit while waiting!

Parade line up will begin at 11:00 AM on Elmwood Avenue between Lafayette Avenue and Auburn (please enter parade lineup on Elmwood from Lafayette Avenue ONLY). This year’s line-up is one block south from where it was last year. Participants must arrive no later than 12:00 PM (NOON) for proper placement in the parade line-up. PLEASE NOTE: due to significantly increased parade participation, we STRONGLY encourage that you arrive at 11:00 AM for line-up.

The parade steps-off promptly at 1:00 PM, traveling south on Elmwood and ending at Chippewa Street. There will be room to disassemble floats in the Evergreen Health Services parking lot at the end of the parade; bathrooms will also be available within the Evergreen Center located at 206 S. Elmwood Avenue.  Participants and attendees are encouraged to take the free NFTA train from the Theatre district to the Pride Festival at Canalside.

A vibrant celebration of the entire LGBTQ community, Buffalo & WNY’s Pride Parade features floats, performances, and participants from over 100 organizations. Awards are presented each year for outstanding entries.

Theme & Awards: Participants are encouraged to incorporate the 2013 theme - FEARLESS - into their designs. Awards a presented each year for outstanding entries and include "Best Overall," "Most Creative," and "Best Interpretation of Theme." Learn more about our 2013 theme – Fearless! – by clicking here.

Parade Route: Stepping off at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Auburn Avenue, the parade will travel south on Elmwood, ending at Chippewa Street. Participants and attendees are encouraged to take the free NFTA Train from Fountain Plaza Station to the Pride Festival at Canalside.

Ike and I participate in the Pride parade for the same reason we participate in the St. Particks Day parade, The Clarence Labor Day parade, The Batavia Downs Doxie Races, The Clarence Bark in the Park (coming up in a couple of weeks in case you haven’t rsvp-ed yet) and any other events the Buffalo Dachshund Club has a presence in. 1st Socialize with his friends and mine
2nd Show our support for the community
3rd Introduce our breed to new people
4th Everyone loves our dogs and treats them like Rock Stars at the events we attend
Lastly because we always have fun with whatever we are doing with the club.

You joined the club for a reason, so show your support for the club, the community and the dogs and come out to some of our events. Who knows you might even enjoy yourself!

Queequeg and I are doing the Niagara County SPCA walk the day before this event - so his little legs will be tired, but if anyone who can't do the Gay Pride parade and wants to do the SPCA Hound Hike, just go on their website and sign up and join us!

I think we may have a Mustang car instead of the wiener wagon (we will see), but I'm sure there is room to rest small doxie legs :)

I have to check with the fiancé to see if she has to work. This "No" may turn to a "Yes"!
