Happy National Trails Day!
To celebrate, conservation assistants at the Bull Run Mountains Natural Area Preserve invites the public to be a part of the construction of a brand new section of trail. All skill levels welcome!
This is a physical activity that is geared towards improving the publicly-accessible trails stewarded by the Virginia Outdoors Foundation.
Expect to clip branches, cut roots, scrape a path, and clear brush on uneven terrain with handtools such as mcleods, loppers, and pick mattocks.
All tools and PPE are provided by preserve staff.
Please bring work gloves and be on time. It is roughly half a mile from the trailhead to hike to the work site after a quick lesson in the process.
There will be pizza and preserve swag provided to volunteers towards the end of the work day to celebrate!
We will meet in the lower parking lot on Beverly Mill Drive, near the contact station (the little trailer.) There will be signs showing where to park!
We strongly encourage wearing field-appropriate clothing for trail work: long pants, work gloves, bug spray, a hat, and sunscreen. Bring plenty of water and any snacks if you desire them. This work day is expected to be between 4 and 5 hours.
This event is subject to weather - Should there be an excess of high-winds or thunderstorms, we will cancel! If you have any questions, please contact

Hope to see you there!
