What we're about

Human trafficking, more prominently sex trafficking, is everywhere. Not just abroad in other countries, but here in the United States as well. Common recruiting places include: foster care; middle/high schools; social media and video games; homeless shelters; malls; and restaurants and bars.

According to Wikipedia, "Arizona is a main destination and transit point for labor and sex trafficking, both nationally and internationally. Some contributing factors include its proximity to Mexico, San Diego and Las Vegas, its warm weather, its network of freeways, and the fact that it is a major conference destination, and home to many professional sporting events."

There will be a Slack channel for certain Meetups, such as planning fundraisers and other events. We're all busy people, and Slack is a convenient way to meet without taking time out of our schedule to travel. However, PLEASE attend fundraisers and other such activities! We need your help!

Here are some things we'll be doing:

1. Meeting with and/or writing to our local, state, and federal government representatives (https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials) to let them know we care about combating human trafficking, and ask what they are doing to address it. ADVOCATE!

2. Organize a fundraiser and donate the proceeds to an anti-trafficking organization (http://www.globalmodernslavery.org/).

3. Encourage our local schools and colleges to partner with students and include modern slavery in their curricula.

4. Create a blog to keep others informed.

5. Donate clothes and other goods to shelters for victims of human trafficking. Also, encourage businesses to give jobs to survivors, helping them get back on their feet and get a fresh start.

These are just a few ideas. Please let me know if you have any as well!
