CARE continues hosting FUN workshops to raise awareness of diversity (e.g. disability, mental illness and multicultural background) in Kobe this year as well! (Admission: 1000 yen/person)

Our workshop of 2019 is about 'Community Development'. This time, our specific topic is how we can make our local communities better for everyone. How can we assist people from diverse backgrounds at the time of the disaster? What can be done to make each community livable place for especially people from diverse backgrounds? Let's learn and talk in a safe, casual and fun environment! After the workshop we will have a social mixer with drinks and snacks for everyone to get to know each other.

The event will be bilingual (English and Japanese) so there is no need to worry if you cannot speak Japanese.

We have the honor of having Ms.UCHIDA Hitomi, born in 1981, originally from Kobe city as our guest speaker for the event. She has congenital osteogenesis imperfecta, had spent her childhood freely without restrictions. She experienced the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake with an intensity of seven, very disastrous scale, when she was junior high schooler. She then moved to Osaka after entering the university, started living on her own. She now enjoys her self-reliant life with caregivers in Suminoe ward, Osaka. In addition, she has been working for NPO Center for Independent Living MUCHU for eight years today. She is in charge of the disaster management there, focusing on the importance of improving the local disaster preparation as well as boosting exchanges among the Sumione ward community.
