ROCK ART tour with George Decker
Gateway & Dolores River canyon
Join George for a look at rock art that many of us in CAS-GJ have probably not seen before.
George would like to meet at 9 AM at a small parking lot on the west side of the CO Hwy 141 crossing over the Gunnison River. The red circle is the meeting place.
• Dress for the weather
• Comfortable walking shoes or light hiking boots (no long or strenuous walks)
• Lunch/ snacks/ water
• Binoculars (always on CAS-GJ trips) & camera
George suggests we try to get into as few cars as possible since some of the parking spots will be small.
It would be good to minimize the number of cars.
High clearance &/or 4WD may be needed for the final planned stop of the day
Since we will be getting in and out of cars close to the highway numerous times and we want to minimize the number of cars it is asked that FIDO NOT COME ALONG today.
This is more a car-roadway based trip than one with extensive hiking however PLEASE be sure you can deal with rough terrain, up and down hills and short cross country walks as we will not be on improved trails.
It is chapter policy that ALL field trip participants must be dues-paid-up members of CAS-GJ (a limited number of members from other chapters may be allowed). If you need to renew membership or join for the first time please download and deliver this membership application.
If you sign up as a YES please be sure you are going to be there. We have seen some people who sign up right away then closer to the date change their RSVP to a NO. Of course there will be a few times that happens but we have seen a few chronic individuals who do this. Please do not be one of them. Give other members the courtesy of a place on the trip if you are a MAYBE rather than saying you are a YES then changing your mind.
