What we're about
This is a place for sharing knowledge and experiences, having the kids socialize, and for making new friends! This is the social and support group for the Autism Spectrum Resource Center.
We are a TEAM of parents with children, adolescents, young adults and adults. We all have different needs, but all basically want the same thing - to be accepted, learn more and enjoy our time together. We are very interested in hearing your experiences and strategies of what has, or has not worked for your child. Some local experts are in the group, and may be able to answer some of your pressing questions. We are proud to say that our NT siblings without the diagnosis also get together. Siblings have to deal with a lot, without a lot of acknowledgment of their patience and tolerance. They also tend to be less judgemental peers to those on the spectrum.
Our two main goals are to: 1. get parents together to ask questions, exchange stories and ideas, and allow them a safe place to bring kids who may be unpredicatable. and 2. Get kids on the spectrum together so they can practice socialization skills, feel they have non-judgemental friends, and overall, just have fun.
Therapy appointments take up time that could be used for sports and after school activities. It is sometimes lonely bringing up an autistic child since you may be afraid of going out in public with friends. This group is a great place to help combat those issues. We may get together and have a parent's lunch, play at the park, have an ice cream social, a family game night, or just get together for a pizza and movie night.
We hope to see you and your family at upcoming events!
