CFI Code of Conduct

CFI branches and campus affiliates are groups of freethinkers, rationalists, skeptics, secular humanists, atheists, and agnostics who come together for many reasons.

First and foremost, CFI groups offer support, educational programming, and social activities for nonreligious and skeptical people. Second, CFI groups are part of the Center for Inquiry's broader educational and outreach initiatives, so we host numerous local events, discussion groups, lectures, and educational programs relating to science, reason, and secular values. Third, CFI groups offer nonbelievers and skeptics an opportunity to join with other "reality-based" individuals to bring about positive changes in society via activism campaigns and advocacy work.

CFI is an organization that promotes humanist values such as reason and compassion. As such, it is hoped that participants in CFI activities will embody these values and conduct themselves in a manner that respects other participants and encouragesopen dialogue and free inquiry. Passion, disagreement, and well-reasoned arguments are expected and welcomed, but rudeness, disrespect, and hostility are not. Participants who cannot remain civil will be asked to leave. Participants who routinely disrespect their fellow attendees will be asked not to return.

Thank you for being a part of CFI and for helping us create an environment where reason and humanist values are not only discussed, they are lived.
