CFI-DC - Drinking Skeptically DC
We usually meet on the SECOND WEDNESDAY of each month at MACKEY'S PUBLIC HOUSE, 1306 G Street NW, Washington DC (formerly the Laughing Man Tavern), half a block from Metro Center 13th Street exit, and near the 30, 32, 36, 42, 52, 54, 63, 64, 80, D6, G8, P6, S2, S4, X2, and Circulator Yellow and Blue bus lines. We will be downstairs. Please look for the 'CFI' sign on the table or ask the host for the 'Drinking Skeptically - Center for Inquiry' group. See you there! Drinking Skeptically DC is an informal social event designed to promote fellowship among skeptics, humanists, and like-minded individuals. Drinking Skeptically provides an opportunity for skeptics, humanists, and others to talk, share ideas, and, yes, drink in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. We discuss politics, science, history, philosophy, and whatever is on our minds. The mission of the Center for Inquiry is to foster a secular society based on reason, science, freedom of inquiry, and humanist values. To learn more about CFI and CFI-DC see http://www.centerforinquiry.net and http://www.centerforinquiry.net/dc. There is a separate Drinking Skeptically DC Meetup group, but Drinking Skeptically DC events are listed under both Meetup groups so if you join this main CFI-DC group then you don't need to join that one too. In addition to Drinking Skeptically DC events, this main CFI-DC Meetup group also lists information for CFI-DC's Cafe Inquiry (4th Tuesday of each month), Drinking Skeptically - Rockville, African Americans for Humanism, occasional lectures, and other events. Our friends at the American Humanist Association also have social events on the 1st and 3d Wednesdays of each month, so there's at least one place to visit every week. CFI-DC encourages people with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing accommodations or have questions about physical access please post a comment and the event leader will email you. Don't drink? Don't let that stop you from joining us! Some of the world's most famous skeptics are teetotalers, and we are happy to have you! The venue has no age restriction for the duration of our event. Drinking skeptically means drinking responsibly. Science and personal experience teach us about the effects of alcohol on the human body. This is especially relevant if you will be driving back home, so public transport is encouraged. We will get separate checks but the restaurant may add a fixed gratuity charge for groups. Please assume about 30% in tax and tips above menu prices for your food and drink. You may pay by cash or credit card but you may need a credit card in order to run a tab.

What we're about

Public Group

The Center for Inquiry–DC (CFI–DC) offers an opportunity to put your principles into practice by joining other rationalists to work for positive change in society. In addition, the D.C. Center sponsors social events for freethinkers as well as intellectual programming.

CFI provides an ethical alternative to religious and paranormal worldviews. In this time of rising religiosity, anti-intellectualism and political turmoil on ethical issues, it is critical that rationalists and freethinkers join together to promote and defend science, reason, and secular values.

CFI–DC is the Washington, D.C. region's source for information and social activities serving atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, skeptics, and freethinkers of all ages and backgrounds. We hope you can identify with our goals and find a home at our Center!

Learn more about CFI–DC at www.centerforinquiry.net/dc and our parent institution, the Center for Inquiry, at www.centerforinquiry.net.

All events are crosslisted with our main web page, Convio, Facebook, and other sites, so RSVPs on this site constitute a minority of RSVPs .
