As you may remember, I have long advocated cooperation with the social message believers, with whom there is much overlap in ethical thought and action.? Of course we must also engage in debate in every promising forum.? But condescension and denunciation of religion in every venue seems counterproductive and increases backlash, while cooperation on? worthy projects may earn respect for us dissenters.? . . .? I have been in touch with some of the free thinker orgs in StLouis.?? The Ethical Sociey here has a number of promising activities.

This article adds another perspective to the hot topic of whether freethinkers should openly criticize religion or "accomodate" religion with civility.

I'm of the opinion that it sometimes makes more political sense to accomodate religionists, especially when discussing issues of common interest. But due to religion's influence on so many people's attitudes, to not criticize religion does a disservice to the people negatively affected by its dogma.
