GIMP ( is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. ( It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition, and image authoring. It is an expert quality photo retouching program.

GIMP is expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything.

We are fortunate to have two speakers coming to talk with us about GIMP.

Benjamin Burney is a Project Manager with many years of experience in industrial, graphic, instructional, and web design, most significantly in the medical products manufacturing industry. He currently serves as PR Director for CDPUG, and is completing six sigma greenbelt certification. He will explain how GIMP can be used quickly and easily for creating transparent gif, png’s, and favicons for the web.

Jennifer Jacobs will talk about how to use GIMP to edit photographs. Jennifer is an IT professional and photographer who lives in the Akron area. You can learn more about her on her website at ( The mission of ( is to support, enlighten, and inspire photographers by sharing tips, tricks, and tutorials. Jennifer’s website focuses on frugal solutions to the expensive hobby of photography.
