Re: [webdesign-396] David Coulson's Introduction

Glad to meetcha! I'm definitely looking forward to meeting you in person. And of course chatting with you about your experiences at Slashdot and SourceForge. It seems most of the folks we've got in the group are either designers, or programmers. But there are a few of us back end guys. I'm more a data/SQL/COBOL guy myself, and am just finally the past couple of years getting experience with GNU/Linux. So I'm none too happy to meet someone with significantly more experience with it than me.

Kind Regards,
Joseph James Frantz

Subject: Re: [webdesign-396] Looking to hire someone for a small project....

I figure since I've been posting today I should probably make an
introduction - I've not been to any of the meetings, but I've been
lurking here for a couple of months.

I am certainly no web designer, however I have significant experience
with web applications and the infrastructure which supports them.
Presently I work for a large luxury goods retailer as a Linux & UNIX
Administrator, part of which involves supporting a significant
e-commerce environment and WebSphere application mid-tiers (I am NOT a
WebSphere administrator or Java programmer - I don't want to be either).
I have knowledge of PHP, Perl and application hosting on Unix
environments (aka I know Apache inside and out) - In previous lives I
have been an Operations Manager for a Cleveland-based ISP, as well as a
Network Engineer for some popular web properties (Slashdot & SourceForge
to name a few).

Hopefully someone will find my contributions to be of value.

PS. I have a Blackberry. Hopefully that will not offend iPhone users.
I've had one for going on five years, and I feel useless without it. :-)
